Is it a real fire, or is it a big candle?
Both, honestly. It burns a block of plant wax the way a candle burns, and it throws a tall open flame the way a fire does. Heat is the single most-mentioned subject in our reviews — people expect a candle and get a fire. It warms the people sitting around it. It is not a patio heater and it won't heat a whole yard.
How long does one refill last?
Up to 8 hours of burning. But the number that matters is evenings: because you can stop it whenever you like by sliding the lid on, most people get four or five evenings out of one refill. Some customers report closer to six hours of continuous burn than eight — we'd rather you heard that from us.
What's in the box?

Can I put it on a wood deck?
On a heat-tolerant surface, yes — that's a common reason people buy it, along with balconies and small patios. The base gets warm, so don't stand it directly on bare decking boards or anything that can scorch. Outdoor use only, and check your own building or local rules on open flame.
What happens in wind and rain?
The flame is vertical and sheltered by the drum, so a breeze doesn't blow embers around the way it does on a wood fire — there are no embers to blow. Slide the lid on if the weather turns, and let the wax set before you move it.
Can I cook on it?

Is it safe to leave burning?
Never leave any open flame unattended, and keep it away from children and pets. What it doesn't do is throw sparks or leave hot embers behind, and you can end it deliberately in one move instead of waiting an hour for a wood fire to die down.
What's the wax made of?
100% vegetable wax. No wood, no gas, no charcoal, no lighter fluid. When it's spent you buy another refill — the pit itself you keep.
